Padstow Mini Football Centre

Inc. Padstow United Youth F.C.
A FA Charter Standard Club

As we come to the end of the summer break, we are now looking forward to the start of the new season. This season will see us increase the number of Youth teams to 5 plus the possibility of 1 more as we go to print. The club remains in The East Cornwall Youth Football League, where we will have Under 8`s / 9`s and 11`s playing 7-a-side matches at Padstow School. We will also have Under 12`s and 14`s playing 11-a-side matches at Jury Park.

All these teams as well as running the Mini Centre is going to guarantee a busy season for all the coaches and committee.

We would like to thank all those sponsors who have enabled us to continue our work with this project. Without this financial support we would not survive. So Many Thanks to you all.

Introducing our committee for the coming season, and if you wish to contact any of them with regards anything to do with the centre, please don`t hesitate.

Padstow AFC News

9th December 2008 Monday 20th October 2008 a very sad day in the 107 years history of the football club, that evening  the committee had to make the tough decision to withdraw the club from the East Cornwal Premier League, and cease to play as a Senior side for the rest of the Season.   WHY..... Several reasons can be given as to why we came to this, the main reason can only be laid   at the feet of players, and the committment or non-committment as it was ! Over the last 3 or 4 seasons the club has suffered from a few knocks, managers have come and gone, we have tried  an array of men to fulfill the task of sustaining a competitive senior side against very heavy odds.  In todays climate money talks and this in some ways, may have contributed to some very talented  local players going to other clubs within the area, a clash of personalities could have been another, but in the end we have probably lost more players due to the working environment, Padstow in  its increasing popularity with the restaurant eating public, has in a way caused a change in the local shift patterns with a lot of locals involved in the restaurant trade and work being more and more important as the cost of living in Padstow gets higher and higher for your average young  local......who can blame them for working rather than playing football in Padstow. In the days of Manager "Chico" when the likes of Dee, Rob T and Colesy used to play for the town,  and alot further back when Dave Roberts and Woody played, all they wanted to do was play or go to  football on a Saturday Afternoon, and nothing would stop that...Pride of Padstow. As a great man once said to me, " We used to go training on a Tuesday and then run down to the  pub to get a look at the team sheet for the Saturday, it was very disappointing if you didn`t find    your name in the first eleven." How times have changed, and while all of these are only views, reality says that for any number of reasons the footballing fraternity of Padstow could not commit to playing for the local Senior Club.  Hence our decision.......it was a sad day indeed especially when you think of the imense amount of  work put in by the few committee members, to retain senior status this summer, put alot of time and effort as well as money into maintaining Jury Park, behind the scenes was not the problem !  WE WILL BE BACK...... This is not the end of Padstow United A.F.C. We are going to be continuing to run the club and maintain the ground this season, we will continue to meet as a committee each month, we are still affilliated to the C.C.F.A. And during the next few months we shall be revising our club vision, our Under 13`s and Under 11`s will continue to use Jury Park for their Home matches, we shall be looking to the future of the club structure as a whole, as well as the development of Jury Park, the possibilities of playing friendly matches will occur as we look to what next season will hold for us,  which will include applying to the Duchy Football League to join them as a Junior side in Division   Five. We will also be approaching 1 or 2 people who maybe interested in the position of Manager for this team and it will be someone who we hope can find the squad of committed loyal Padstow based players, who may want to be part of the rebirth of this club.......it`s a real back to basics start and those who feel they have the grit and determination to be part of it will be welcomed by all those members, who at this moment in time feel such emotion at having had to be put in  the position of making that decision ....... PLAYERS IT`S DOWN TO YOU !! NEXT COMMITTEE MEETING - MONDAY 4TH FEBRUARY 2009 - GOLDEN LION - 7.30PM New Members would be most welcome !!

CONGRATULATIONS SEAN ON WINNING THE N.C.D.C.

New 2008/9 season info

As we approach the end of the Summer School Break we are now looking to the new football season and `what a season`

it is looking to be. Our main priority is obviously maintaining the running of The Mini Centre on Saturday Mornings, whilst

also developing the coaching of our league teams, of which all of our coaches are totally committed to.

Our aims to achieve full participation in controlled competitive football, within an enjoyable and safe environment.

The Saturday sessions will continue to run in accordance with the school term dates, with an odd

Saturday off during the Term Breaks. ( All details of dates and costs are below. )

The Mini Centre is open to all children, girls and boys aged between 5yrs and 13yrs old.

We would like to emphasize that all our children who have moved onto Wadebridge School last year & this

year are still very much welcome to attend the sessions if they so wish, we will be very glad to see them.

This season we have 3 youth teams playing in the East Cornwall Youth League - UNDER 10`S / 11`S AND 13`S.

We are also going to play as many friendlies as possible at UNDER 8`S / 7`S LEVEL.

Though last season we obviously had a few children go onto do other things, at the same time we had lots of new

children come along to the centre, and our membership maitained it`s numbers.

With the awful weather we have endured this summer our Saturday sessions have been very hit and miss !

With this in mind we are going to re-launch the new season by doing a mailshot , and it would also be great if

any of our current members know any children interested in joining the centre, then please do invite them along

to have a go, they will all be made very welcome.

Seans message 7th May 2008

It is great to see so many children joining our centre and getting some healthy exercise, I would just like to
say that anyone can turn up to a session even if you have never played football before and would just like
to see if you like it, or would like to try for our 3 league teams next season. Come along and give it a go !!
Well I`m back ! I apologise for the delay in updating everybody on our progress so far, but here we go !!
Firstly I hope everybody had a great May Day, the weather was pretty good after all the doubt which made
for a lovely day.
PARENTS
Since my last message to you I have volunteered my services to the Parish Plan Management Committee,
my hope is to be able to assist in helping to provide further sports / leisure facilities within the town as well
as looking out for our town by helping to provide other essentials for our community, by being on the
committee, I also hope it will aid our own progression as we further develop, if anyone out there would
like to be part of this new venture and be on one of the sub committees please contact me and I will put
you in touch with the relevant sub committee lead of which there are 5 …. Something else to think about.
Congratulations to all of our children who took part in the Newquay Tournament last weekend at Under 7`s
and Under 8`s level, although I was not there I have received excellent reports on your efforts, you have
certainly all come a long way since last year, and the 7`S 2 - 2 draw against Wadebridge was some result
and we are all very proud of all the players on that day - James B, Cameron C, Ben M, Tommy G, Branden E,
Harry H, & Tom S, for the Under 7`s & Joseph C, Robbie D, Connor H, Frazier RJ, Callum T, Ben W, &
Tom T, for the Under 8`s, WELL DONE TO YOU ALL !!!!
DON`T FORGET WE HAVE A TOURNAMENT IN A FEW WEEKS TO ATTEND AT FOXHOLE - THE
UNDER 9`S AND UNDER 11`S PARTICIPATING ON SATURDAY 31ST MAY AND THE UNDER 12`S
PARTICIPATING ON SUNDAY 1ST JUNE - Further Details to Follow….
As far as our 2 league teams go the Under 9`s what can I say except that during the last 6 or 7 games you
have all certainly showed that you can play as a team and work hard for each other, with that you have
gained some really fantastic results, but remember you all have to keep up the hard work and listen to the
coaching staff, as we are no longer the new kids and other teams will know what to expect from you next
season. The Under 11`s more or less the same, being in a slightly more difficult position, playing against
far more experienced and older children, it has taken a little longer to establish this team but again the
last few results and matches have seen a vast improvement in teamwork and ability to match other teams.
At the end of the day I think that we can all look back on this first season with a huge sense of pride and I
hope that all our players have enjoyed themselves, whilst still banging in one or two goals along the way.
Congratulations to Aiden for getting to the Final of the Penalty Shoot out at Plymouth Argyle ( remember
our trip last year ! ) he found himself up against some tough competition but did himself proud a few
weeks ago….well done mate !
At the start of February we started to work on building an Under 13`s side for next season, which is the
obvious progression for the centre and Padstow United Youth F.C. playing some of the Under 12`s teams
from this season in friendlies the boys and girls have really done well, the step up to 11-a-side football is
never easy and the children have made a great start, having played 4 matches to date winning 3 and
drawing against a strong Wadebridge side 3 - 3, lots of positives have come out, along with a few things
that need to be addressed in time for the new season. But well done team !
Next season we shall be hoping to have teams in the Under 9`s Under 11`s and Under 13`s leagues, we
will have to reshuffle the pack as some of the children will have to move up an age group, but this should
not give us too many problems with 3 or 4 from each team moving up to the next team and 3 or 4 younger
ones moving into the Under 9`s to give us 3 quite strong teams. We shall also be trying to get a lot more
games organised for the Under 8`s and 7`s, but everyone must bear with us because it takes a lot of
organising !! For next season we will require a manager for the Under 13`s team, as while I am happy to
do the job I am trying to juggle a lot of balls and my ideal set up would be to have a manager and assistant
manager for each team plus a manager / coach to look after each of the Under 7`s / 8`s when needed.
An assistant secretary would also come in handy as this would mean I can dedicate my time to overseeing
the project as a whole…..food for thought and I welcome any suggestions or even better volunteers.
We are building for the future and we have made a fantastic start but like the league teams there is a lot
more to do.
We will be running the Assessment Programme sponsored by TJ International again possibly in July, so
those of you who did not do it last year can have a go at it and those who want to improve on last year can
try their luck at Platinum or Gold Level……Dates to follow.
My thanks to all our sponsors and kit sponsors, we wouldn`t be where we are without you.
As I have said before we are hoping to organise some off site trips, away from football as well as to
football events, including tournaments, this we hope will encourage team spirit and team building.
Our website continues to grow and webmaster Steve Bettridge is doing an excellent job establishing and
building it up.
If you have anything you would like to put on the Website, "because it is your site kids" then just email
either Steve or Myself ( both addresses are on the site ) and we will see what we can do !!
We will be having a presentation afternoon / evening in June once all the league matches are finished, the
details will be finalised and sent out to everyone at the centre as we will be including all our younger
children in this….so watch this space….
Our Committee whilst very good and strong, is open for improvement and expansion all the time and as I
have said above a couple of Assistant Secretaries would not go amiss. I am also hoping to recruit a
management team for the new Under 13`s ( SO BE AWARE !! ) Volunteers welcome !!
We would also encourage anyone who wishes to assist in coaching on a Saturday Morning to contact us
more the merrier…..
Our present coaching staff of :- Peter Brereton , Becky O`Hagan , Mark Constance , Phil White , Rob Taylor ,
Dave Easdon , Emma Chown , Steve Holmes and Myself , are always on the look out for extra volunteers
MORE CHILDREN MEANS MORE EYES ARE NEEDED TO KEEP A WATCHFUL EYE ON THEM.
Our staff are great but more help would be good. Anyone interested in any of these posts please contact
me as and when you can.
Lastly my thanks to all our staff, Susi our welfare officer and all the committee, keep up the great work.
……and finally to all our children I hope you all continue to enjoy the Football Centre…..and have FUN !!
Thankyou All
Sean.
COME ON LEEDS……
