17th May 2008

The match took place in torrential rain but the game had to be played and both teams were up for it. The team started of a little diffrent today with Harvey, Jacob and Kieran playing from the start, the Belles were attacking with a lot more confidence than when we last played them, they were passing well and our boys looked to scared to tackle. Jacob was going in well with his tackles and he had the scars to prove it, he said in the car on the way home that those girls have sharp nails and they used them and their studs! It looked like we were going in to half time at nil nil until Ryan B put through a lovely ball and Quinn scored.
After the managers team talk the Padsta boys came diffrent with Quinn and Ryan B linking up very well and they started to score the goals, Ryan B got 4 with Quinn finding the back off the net with 4 also. Aiden was working hard in defence/midfield and got a good strike on the ball and slotted it into the back of the belles net. Harvey was in the thick of the action getting some lovely tackles in and pushing the ball up front. Matt had a good game, its always good for the rest of the team when they have someone reliable at the back to pick up on any mistakes. Ryan W had numerous chances on goal but as per the first game their goalie just seemed to save everything he through at her, again she had an amazing game and was never afraid to come out and get that ball. Kieren is getting better and better each game he plays and was able to take the ball of one of their bigger and better players on numerous occasions.

Well done Padstow.

Charlestown V Padstow (Away win)

6th May 2008

Anyone that was at the game will now what happened and what a great game it was as well!!
A special mention should go to the young Charlestown player with the Argyle top on he must have been around 7 or 8 and he will be someone that we will have to keep an eye on in the future. It was great to see the young lads taking to the field, taking on the older lads, with Lia and Dan playing in school uniform!! The Charlestown players that turned up were good sports and joined in the fun with the Ref playing a very dubious ball through to allow Charlestown to score but the sub that came on looked a bit old but the Woman supporters were going wild for him!!!!

Well done everyone it was'nt a wasted journey in the end.

Padstow 9 Charlestown 6

27th April 2008

The Charlestown team were already warming up when the lads start turning up and it was looking like we were going to have a hard game on our hands and without matt as well it was going to be fun!
Phil and Dave put out a well briefed team and Charlestown came at us from the very first kick, they were looking like the first team to score but Quinn was not going to allow this and placed a lovely kick into the corner of the net. The team started to play some lovely football passing well with Ryan B everywhere collecting up those loose balls and slotting them through to Quinn and Tom. This was Quinns day he scored 7 great goals and everyone was well deserved, we had worries where they kept coming back at us but Quinn was keeping us ahead in the game.
Tom got his goal, he was just unlucky today as he was playing really well but like Ryan W against the Belles the ball was just not going in the net for him. Aiden played a real good game and did not fear a couple of their players that were much bigger than him, with Jacob just not having any fear what so ever. Kieren did his bit and John was unlucky with the goals that went in against him but he pulled off so great saves when he was called upon. A very well deserved win ps. a small note about Jel:-

13th April 2008

For a change the weather was nice and sunny and John told me as he was walking over to the pitch that he felt really confident today and didnt his day go well. Southgate are second in this division and from the first whistle it showed with the ball staying in our half most of the first 5 mins.
Then the team started to play some really great football, passing well, winning tackles and pinning the reds back in their own half for a good 10mins. Unfortuantly the Colts got lucky on their breaks and as we went into halftime 3 nil down.
I didnt witness the half time team talk but something must have been promised to them as they came out in the second half as they were for their good 10mins in the first half, much to Dee's delight. Tom came running down the wing passing a couple of the colts with ease and almost from the corner post slotted a ball in the top corner of the colts goal. GAME ON! With the colts surprised Hitman Hill slotted in his second goal from a nice pass from Ryan B. The colts came back at us and John pulled off some excellant saves but they beat our defence and slotted in their fourth.
Padstow in the past would have let the game go at this point but again they pulled together and Quinn (who must have been inspired by Walcott in the week) went on a run, passing must have been 4 colt players to slot home our third goal.
Mat and Aiden were playing well at the back with the assistance of Ryan B against players that were much bigger than themselves and also a lot dirtier in their tackles. Young Joff came on at the end of the second half and he never gives up on his tackles BUT the goal of the game must go to John who kicked the ball from his own goal, it went straight over everyones heads, Quinn read that it was coming to him the Colts goalie reacted quickly and was straight out the goal but it bounced between them and straight into the goal. Well done John!
Considering this team was much larger than our players and at the top of the division it was good to see our team not lose heart even though they were 3 nil down to grab a well deserved draw.

6th April 2008

What felt like one of the coldest days of the year, the game looking like it was not going to start due to the snow and hail the clouds opened and we had a game on.
The belles I think took Padstow by surprise and attacked from the very first kick and they looked like they were going to score until the lads realised this was going to be a little tougher than they thought. Padstow then took the game by the horns and started to enjoy their football, passing well, winning tackles and then started putting the goals away.
Ryan W most have had 20 chances on goal and for some reason the ball was just not going in the net for him, but each time the ball would rebound out, either Tom or Quinn were quick to pounce on it and tallied up their goals. Tom getting 6 and Quinn getting 5, well done lads your really playing well together.
Mathew scored the two best goals of the game shooting from the half way line from a free kick on one and taking a good shot from his own half on the other. Good to see Aiden on the score sheet as he was playing well at the back along side Harvey who was winning some good tackles and staying back just in case they had an attack. Kieran came on for most of the match, Ryan B got a couple of good goals and could have got a hat trick had it not been for the final whistle been blown. Good to see young Joff playing, he is not afraid to tackle does'nt matter who you are he is straight in there. Ryan W finally got that goal he deserved to the delight of the team, just felt sorry for John who didnt have to do much but at the end of the game the belles were heard to say he was the best looking out of the team!!!!

A special mention should go to the Belles goalkeeper as the score should have been a lot more but she was not afraid to go in and stop anything that came towards her. The dedication of the Belles management team and players was a refreshing change to some of the teams that we have played against and they should stand up and be proud at the end of the season.

LEAGUE Padstow 17 Pensilva Belles 0

Padstow 2 Pelynt 2

16th March 2008

The game started off well and Tom and Quinn had some great shots on goal.  However Pelynt broke away and scored a well taken goal.  Our heads never dropped and within minutes Tom was causing all sorts of problems again but the Pelynt goal keeper was equal to all his shots.  After another fine save from the Pelynt goal keeper we were awarded a corner.  Tom curled the corner into the goal much to the delight of the large crowd and it was no less than he and the team deserved.  The defence dealt with the Pelynt attack and on another break away Tom scored his second goal.  The second half started the same as the first but Pelynt were coming more into the game.  However Matthew, Aiden and Ryan B never let them have any space or time and quickly snuffed out the attacks.  We had some great opportunities again to score but the Pelynt goal keeper pulled off some fantastic saves from Tom, Quinn and Ryan W.  However, on the break Pelynt streamed forward and had a shot from just outside his area.  As against Lostwithiel Quinn managed to get his finger tips to it and push it out for a corner.  However, John was the goalie and the referee awarded a penalty, which John managed to get a hand to but the shot was to powerful and went in.  Jacob Constance game on for Ryan W and played well in midfield.  He managed to have a couple of shots at goal and made some great tackles.  The game was finely poised at 2 – 2 with Padstow looking more likely to score the 3rd goal.  However, time ran out and we had to settle for a draw.  Thank you to Harvey and Kieran who were both substitutes but never got to play.

Well done boys this is the best display of football all season and we were unlucky not to win and I feel that we more than deserved to win this game.  I was asked for my man of the match and after a chat with Phil we decided Aiden deserved to be.  This was the hardest decision we have had to make because I feel that every one deserved to be named man of the match.  BRILLIANT

What a day, as we were driving up to Launceston we drove through heavy wind, heavy hail storms and heavy rain. Got to the pitch and it lived up to the weather. It was in an awful condition, really wet and sticky.

Unfortuantly the lads had to take to the field and before we knew it after a minor mistake between defence and John the first goal went in against us. But we really surprised the home team by coming straight back at them with Tom getting a good goal. We were holding them well but Mathew came off with an injury and it was nice to see the managers son Kieran come on in his place.

The second half started off well but i think we had a lot of tired legs out there as the goals just started to go in for the home team we were still attacking well but Tom was tired from playing with the under 12s yesterday. Quinn was our star player today, he stayed back in defence and made some excellant saves, clearing the ball and really saving our blushs. Ryan B and Aiden all did their best but again it was difficult in these conditions with Ryan B coming off after hurting himself with Jenni coming on his place and looking at home in the Under 11s team and linking up well with Tom. This was a hard game and I think in diffrent conditions the score would have been much closer.

23rd February 2008

With a good warm up from Luke the boys were ready for this game and with not having training today they were fresh and up for it. The Pumas were much bigger players than our boys but our boys matched everything they threw at us in the first half and a little more with us taking an early lead through Quinn then a follow up from Ryan W. Pumas came back with two very easy goals and Padstow came back again when in the past they would have just let their heads drop and Ryan B scored a blinding goal from his own half and it bounced over the keeper.

The second half again saw the Pumas get some easy goals but Padstow didnt give up. Quinn was everywhere and again linking up so well with Quinn, Aiden looked very comfortable back in defence and won some hard tackles. Mathew had worked hard and was replaced by Harvey who was straight into the action and Ryan B with his first game in midfield being replaced by Jacob.

Sorry for the delay in reporting but I have been celebrating our fantastic first win.  What can I say – all the hard work in training has finally paid off and the instructions given by the management and coaching staff was put to good use on the pitch.  It started so well with the fabulous quartet of George, Ryan W, Quinn and Tom streaming forward and passing the ball to each other.  All of you managed to find space on the pitch very well.  The first goal was a peach with Quinn playing Ryan W through and he slotted the ball nicely past the keeper into the bottom corner.  Matthew and Ryan B played well at the back keeping their positions  and clearing the ball up the field.  With Padstow streaming forward Bodmin broke out and scored a very good goal – but enough said about that.  John made some excellent saves and threw his body in front of the ball with no fear.  It stayed 1 1 up until half time but confidence was high as we had created several chances.  The second half began and Tom and Quinn were linking up well and created a few chances before Quinn following an amazing run shot across goal into the bottom corner for a goal that was more than deserved.  The same players linked well for the third goal which was scored by Quinn in the same fashion as his first. Aiden and Jacob came onto the pitch in place of Matthew and George and both played very well in their positions and we managed to hold on for our first win – FANTASTIC.

I forgot to mention that Mount Bodmin only had 5 players.  Well done to Harvey for volunteering to play for Bodmin and he made some great tackles.  This was excellent sportsmanship Harvey and you rightly received three cheers from both teams and all the coaches and spectators – you are a credit to our club – Thank you.

27th January 2008

The team started on a cold day with good warm ups etc and took to the field looking much fresher than of late. A few changes had been made to the team by the new management and didnt it pay off. Biscovey attacked from the start and before we knew it we were 2 nil down, just a few clumsy mistakes meant they were given two easy goals. But then Tom, Quinn and George came alive and really took the game to Biscovey, making nice pass's, looking around for each other and before we knew it Tom had scored two goals. Just before half time George headed the ball off the goal line and Ryan and Matt were defending very well.
The team came out in the second half full of confidence and after an excellant clearance from Ryan B the ball was slotted through to Quinn to get our third goal and were are level pegging. Then the second half curse hit us once again, the teams shoulders seemed to drop and after a couple of substitutions we were losing again. COME ON PADSTOW that was the best I have seen you play in the first half and Biscovey were worried, very worried! Its just a shame that they scored 7 as 4 of their goals were just pure luck and lack of communication on our part.

Lostwithiel 17 Padstow 1

 20th January 2008

Under the new management team of David and Phil we took to the pitch having only played one competitive match and missing several training sessions since Mid December.  The fitness level and strength of Lostwithiel was much better than ours and it wasn’t long after kick off that we conceded the first goal.
What was to follow was a lesson in attacking football and it seemed that every time Lostwithiel attacked we conceded a goal and we were very quickly 4 goals down.
However, when we carried the ball forward we looked threatening and some excellent inter play between Tom, Quinn and Ryan W nearly resulted in a goal, the goal keeper saving with his legs from Ryan W shot and Quinn following up was unlucky as a defender made an excellent block from his shot.  These chances spurred Padstow on and we were playing with confidence going forward.
Harvey made some excellent tackles in Midfield to break up Lostwithiel attacks and with one such tackle he set Tom Hill free.  Tom picked the ball up in his own half and carried the ball forward going past 3 much bigger defenders before shooting past the keeper into the bottom right hand corner.  The large following of away supporters (the amount of which Scunthorpe United would have been proud of) went wild in celebration.  It was the first goal that Lostwithiel has conceded all season.  The game opened up and there were chances at each end, John made some fantastic saves but unfortunately the ball seemed to rebound to a Lostwithiel player who had the easy task of putting the ball into the net.
At half time George and Jacob came on for Harvey and Ryan W.  Jacob did well covering the area just in front of Matthew and Aiden in defence and George always looked to carry the ball down the wing. Tom was unlucky on a few occasions not to score and was taking the ball past players with ease.  Again most of Lostwithiel’s goals in the second half came from rebounds after excellent saves from John.  Quinn was full of energy and after being asked to help out the defence made some excellent tackles and a special mention must be said about the goal line save and clearance he made when a goal was more likely.  However from the resulting throw in Lostwithiel had a powerful shot which Quinn managed to get both hands on at full stretch and push out for a corner – unfortunately John was wearing the goalkeeper jersey and the referee pointed to the spot.  The penalty was hit with power and John managed to get his hand on the ball but it went into the goal to make it 17 – 1.  The Lostwithiel manager did tell me after the match that we gave them a good game and we will do well in the Under 11’s league next season.  On Saturday we will be working on the basics with the whole team and it was nice to see that everyone enjoyed themselves and kept smiling.

6th January 2008

It was a cold morning with a pitch that Sean had performed miracles on to get the match underway. Padstow took to the pitch and unfortuantly played like they had just woke after their xmas dinner and was made to watch the Queens speech! It was a shame that the heavy rain yesterday meant that Padstow had had no real practise for a few weeks. St Tudy werent looking their best but it didnt take long for them to find the back of the net. Sloppy defending allowed them to find the back of the net a few more times even though John saved their blushs as it could have been more. Aiden took a row of studs down his leg well but he still jumped up and continued.

Half time came and the team talk did something to the lads as in the second half they only conceded 3 goals. They were attacking better George and Quinn winning some good tackles but just not finding the back of the net. Ryan white running around all the time and winning some good tackles. Some good hard training and I think we are not going to be to far away from our first win.

With the absence off coach Dave it was down to the professionals!!!! to coach John ready for his goalkeeping duties today. Whilst Sean concentrated on the team, John was having practise shots fired from all directions, young and old from Gary, Steve, Brian, Connor and from the talented feet off Luke Hill. John was stopping everything and was on fire and this showed in the game, collecting balls well, pushing hard shots out of the way and listening to Dave's advise from the week before to take a good hard goal kick and get back to his line quick.

We started off well, with Mathew getting back into his stride after his break and there seemed to be an air of confidence surging through the team today. We were winning most of the tackles and getting the ball forward just to come up against Mounts goalie who was also on form today. A special mention should go to Ryan W who was playing in midfield and everyone agreed he was having his best game to date with him winning good tackles and getting that ball forward all the time. Most important Ryan, is that Midfielders also get goes on goal, which was proved today, with a delightful chip from Ryan W that beat their tall goalie well.

Second half and we were still one nil up and with Mount attacking down hill it was starting to get a little difficult. Aiden was everywhere pulling off some classic tackles and clearing that ball well up to Quinn and Tom who were both having a good game. I may have said this last week, but as soon as these two start to link up together they will be an unstoppable force up front, they were both firing the shots but just to no avail. Mount got level, then it was not long until it was four more that were put past us. This was a shame as Padstow looked excellent today and Mounts Manager made a point of saying that a draw would have been fair and he was surprised at how Padstow have improved over the past few months.

On a damp dreary day and after a long break of no games, the under 11's took to a very wet pitch, Johns face on seeing the large muddy puddles that greeted him knew he was not going to stay clean for very long. A welcome edition to the team was Tom H who made his presence felt from almost the very first kick, winning good tackles and scoring two good goals he was causing the Pelynt players problems all the time. Its looks like when Quinn and Tom get a few games under their belts together, the opposition will have to watch out!

Aiden and Ryan were very busy in defence winning some good tackles and clearing to the midfield well. Ryan B had a very good game today winning the ball many times off the larger Pelynt players and then clearing it well. In the first half it was very close between the two teams, with I feel Padstow going into the break the much stronger team, but did we get hit by the under 9's curse? As soon as we came out into the second half Pelynt scored and that was it, our lads heads seem to lower and they started to look tired. Pelynt got a couple of very lucky goals and we hit the bar on a number of occasions with Quinn coming very close. Ryan W looked very comfortable in midfield playing well along side George and Harvey, Harvey's getting to have quite a hard kick on him and I feel he had a good game today. John came out and collected the ball very well and made some excellant saves with the referee making a special mention of this at the end of the game. Good trustworthy Aiden was always there in case there were any problems that needed sorting out and did so when called upon.

A few little issues will need to be taken up in training but I felt in the first half, Padstow shone, on what was a very damp day (muddy for John!).

Again started off promising with us coming very close to scoring from the start and it looked like we could even get a win out of this game. But once again as soon as they get a couple of goals against us we loose a bit of our fighting spirit. John B was playing in a goal mouth covered in stones etc, that you would have to throw caution too everytime you went down to collect the ball, but was caught out by some very flooky goals. Good to see Aiden back with his good tackling and Ryan B winning some good battles on the left side and getting the ball through to midfield. Mathew controlled the back line well and showed us he's got a good kick on him. John M was everywhere and scored a couple of good goals, well done mate. George had a good game today, controlling the ball well, putting in some good tackles and putting in some good shots. Ryan W came back to help in midfield and was looking good getting into the thick of the action and scoring a good goal. It was good to see Kieron playing, you set up one of the goals nicely mate. With the under 11's team following straight on after the under 9's losing 15, nil they came out expecting the worse and after a few minutes Padstow were 1 nil down. The Lostwithiel team were playing as their ages suggest but our team made up of mainly 9 year olds were still winning some good tackles. Matthew kept the back line well under control dispite losing a tooth in the game (Hopefully the tooth fairy will look after him well Sean!!). Harvey was looking comfortable as right back and Ryan B clearing well under pressure from the much larger players. The team came out in the second half as a different team with Quinn who was still a little under the weather, Ryan W and George getting close but just to no avail. Caitlin, who was very alert to Lostwithiels quick throw ins. John was confident as ever in goal and stopped some very stong shots but was just unlucky on the day. On what was a very damp pitch, after all this dry weather we have been used to, Padstow Under 11's took to the field for their very first league game. What a start, in our first attack the ball rebounded off the goal posts and cross bar three times until it was kicked away for St Tudy to score only moments later. George put in some very good corners which we had been lacking recently and once again John was magnificent in goal, saving some excellent shots.  Ryan B cleared off the line with Aiden getting in some crunching tackles and then putting through some lovely free kicks for the ever inspiring Quinn to latch on too. Quinn never stopped he displayed skills that are far beyond his years.  The defence worked hard with Matt taking good control and commanding a tight back line. Harvey came on in the 2nd half giving the defence a much needed fresh pair of legs and Quinn (after taking a lot of hard knocks), Ryan W and George all coming close to scoring but were just not close enough.
