Wadebridge 3 Padstow 4

Sunday 30th November 2008 UNDER 13`S LEAGUE GROUP B AWAY V WADEBRIDGE TOWN Result Wadebridge Town 3 Padstow United F.C. 4   Padstow Scorers Callum 4, 30 mins. Dan W 15 mins. Jacob 65 mins.  Att : Fantastic Support home and away ! Match Report Well what can I say I left the shambles that was Leeds Uniteds FA CUP tie to go to a more lively  affair ....yes a Wadebridge / Padstow Derby match, and I will admit things were not shaping up with a couple of late withdrawels due to illness to go with our 3 long term injured players, it was going to be tough ! In the end the team lined up with Dom between the sticks, due to lack of defenders Sean threw the team in at the deep end with a new system, 3 defenders of Josh, Matt and Jack, the   midfield comprised of Sam T, Jacob, John, India and Dan W, which left Tom and Callum up front,  and Kyle the supersub for the day. A very cold day, but Padstow soon put some heat into the contest when with their first attack, Dan   found John who unleashed a terrific shot which should have been a goal all the way only for the upright to get in the way, but Callum was alert and following up for the rebound rounded the keeper to find the back of the net, "1 nil Padstow". No sooner had the restart taken place Jacob won the  ball and floated the ball into the area only for a Wadebridge defender to handball and a penalty was awarded, up stepped Jack who hit the back of the net, only for the ref to disallow due to a  Padstow player entering the area, Jack tried his luck again only for the keeper to make a  tremendous save. 1 nil it stayed. Wadebridge seemed to wake up then and Matt and Jack had to be sharp to stifle a well worked attack and clear the danger. Both Dan and Sam were settling into their new wingback roles and working hard, and it was a ball from Sam into Jacob who combined well with India to release Dan who took his chance and hit a  rocket of a ball which left the keeper with no chance and giving Padstow their deserved 2nd.  The derby game was shaping up nicely and Wadebridge weren`t going to lie down and with 18 mins gone they had pulled one back after good work down the left a cross came in and a mixup with the defence led to the ball squirming in past Dom. Padstow didn`t let the game go though and came back with Callum trying his luck, from range and John working hard all over the field the system was new but Padstow were getting numbers behind the ball and stifling the Bridgers attempts at attack, Matt was sweeping up the loose balls while Josh and Jack were doing well coping with the  wide balls. With half time approaching and Wadebridge looking for the equaliser, Padstow broke down the  left with Dan who pulled the ball back to Jacob,  worked well to find Callum in space, who let loose with another fantastic shot to put Padstow 3 - 1 up and for Callum to grab his 4th goal in 2 games.  As the whistle went for half time Sean was pleased as punch but also had to make his words  count in the next 5 minutes......Second half and no sooner had Sean found his space on the ice cold touchline than bang !!! A cross came in and the free man grabbed a header to make it 2 - 3, Sean was not a happy bunny....the match was certainly on and tackles started flying in, good old derby stuff, Jacob India and John worked hard in the middle, and the defensive trio were finding they were having a lot more to do as tired legs started to show. Dom was in fantastic form keeping the  Wadebridge strikers at bay, John was starting to fall deeper into the Padstow defence as the   pressure started to tell, Sam T did get a couple of runs down the wing to relieve some of the onslaught, and India was having to cope with a not so small chap, Sean pulled Callum back to assist the midfield.  It wasn`t all one way traffic and Padstow with Dan made a couple of decent chances  to increase the lead, and Jacob narrowly missed with a great lob.   With an hour gone though disaster struck, with the ball bouncing about in the Padstow area Matt  went to clear the ball only to slice his kick, Dom picked up the loose ball, ( as he should !! ) but the man in black decided it was a back pass !! Free kick - with all our players on the line, the Free kick  was taken and ended up in the back of the net !!! 3 all... I`m not saying anything or else I will get in  trouble ! With 10 minutes left both teams went all out for a winner, both teams coming close with  some good play, Sam T was thwarted by some great defending and Callum had a chance to grab the winner, meanwhile Dom and the defence were doing their bit, India was still getting stuck in,  despite being very tired. As the minutes ticked down Kyle was introduced for his debut and was  straight into the action, making a good tackle to release Jacob who took advantage of the Bridgers  lack of numbers at the back and delivered a peach of a lob to go in off the post and grab a well  deserved goal for himself and a winner for the team. A few tense moments were still to be endured as the ref seemed to forget what time it was....JOKE ! But the whistle went and the elation said it all, Wadebridge 3 Padstow 4......GREAT ! WELL DONE ALL !! YOU ALL DESERVE M.O.M. But..... Man of the Match - Jacob Managers Player - John Next Match - Away v Gorran Sunday 7th December TBC

Padstow 5 Tregorrick Park 0

Sunday 16th November 2008 UNDER 13`S LEAGUE GROUP B HOME V TREGORRICK PARK Result Padstow United F.C. 5  Tregorrick Park 0 Padstow Scorers Tom W 2 mins. John 8 mins. Callum 20, 40 mins. Jacob 62 mins.  Att : A greatly appreciated number of supporters home and away ! Match Report After some heavy rain the day before and overnight Sunday morning found a bit of sunshine and  after an early morning inspection the pitch seemed in good nick, all that was needed was a couple of teams to play on it, with both teams struggling with players this weekend Padstow edged it with 12 to Tregorricks 11.   Sean was forced to make some changes to the line up due to injuries, and other commitments, but  Padstow took to the field with the ever present Dom in goal, Bridie continuing to impress at left back Josh replaced the missing Tom B at right back, and Matt and Jack combined as usual in the centre,  Sam T started the game on the right wing, Tom W slotted onto the right wing, and India and Jacob partners in crime in the middle of the park, John started up front with Callum which left super sub Harvey on the bench.   The match kicked off and Padstow showed their intentions from the start, pushing forward Jacob immediatley latched onto a loose ball and fed through to Tom W who very calmly slotted the ball   into the corner of the net leaving the keeper with no chance, and within 2 minutes Padstow were  1 - 0 up. Padstow continued to play solidly from the restart ensuring Tregorrick could not get a hold  on the game, Tregorrick did threaten once but Matt was there to clear the danger with a great tackle and clearance. On 8 minutes Jacob and India combined to win the ball in midfield and slot the through ball to John who calmly saw the keeper off his line, to neatly lob him, and grab the 2nd. From the restart Tregorrick tried to get back into the game and caused a few problems for Josh, who dealt with each attack in his casual stride, Matt and Jack are really starting to create a good partnership and tackled hard but fair, Dom was picking up anything that found it`s way through    but Padstow were in charge and Callum came close to making it 3 but the keeper parried and the danger cleared, Tregorrick went up the other end and had a shot saved by Dom, who fed the ball to the hardworking Bridie, who in turn worked well with Tom W, Tom finding John in space worked  his way through to find Callum in space in the area to have a clean shot at goal and grab the 3rd of Padstows goals,  ( inspirational ). Sam T working the right side well had been provider   throughout the match so far and he nearly found himself on the score sheet only to have his shot saved by the keeper. As half - time approached Jacob had a couple of chances to extend the   lead further, and Tregorrick did give the Padstow defence a nervy moment but Bridie came to the  rescue to clear the danger. Half Time and time for Padstow to get over the break and come out playing as they did in the first period, something we have a tendancy not to do ! However Sean need not have feared as his team  came out of the traps once again and with Tom W finding his new role on the left wing to his liking provided John and Callum with some great passes, and it wasn`t too long before some great play  between Tom and John found Jacob for a chance to unleash a shot on goal, which was superbly  saved by the keeper but the loose ball found an unmarked Callum to follow up and score his 2nd  of the match, and put Padstow 4 nil up, Padstow were dominating the match but Bridie had to be  alert to the danger to make a challenge and prevent a Tregorrick one on one with Dom, as some of the Padstow players lost a bit of concentration. As the half wore on Sam T made way for Harvey who went onto the left wing and Tom W switched to his preferred right wing, Harvey immediatley got stuck in and made an important challenge, and made a great pass to Jacob who then went on an amazing individual run which ended in the captain scoring a wonderful goal, giving the goalkeeper no chance at all. With 8 minutes remaining Padstow were in control 5 nil up and Coach Sean was pleased with the teams best league performance to date. Tregorrick hadn`t given up and credit to them they were still giving Matt and Jack a couple of  headaches, but with John just missing out on his 2nd Padstow well deserved this victory their first league win this season......mind you we have only played two before this ! WELL DONE GUYS ! A GREAT RESULT TO GO FORWARD WITH ! Man of the Match - Callum  Managers Player - India

Match Report
Well as you can see from the result this is not a great game to put a report together for ! However
what I will say is that our team did not give up at all even when the goals flew in during a 10 mins
spell that as a coach / manager I couldn`t believe what I was seeing.
Jacob did lead by example and kept rallying his troups and scored a superb free kick in the first
half to keep us in a very tight game which at half time we only found ourselves only 2 - 1 down and
playing really well, as for the second half ........!?
Dominic in goal I felt really sorry for, he made some outstanding saves kept us in the game during
the first period, and I can not blame him for all but maybe 2 of the goals. Dom you are a great little
keeper so keep at it mate ! Tom B again gave us a stirling effort during the first half, making some
great tackles and really playing as a team man, like a few tho` playing uphill and against a wind in
the second half tired and we paid the price for only having the 1 sub. Bridie again a brill first half
and definately not out of place in the 11 - a side games, maybe got caught out of position on a few
occasions but everyone will learn as we go. Jack another one who played his heart out in the 1st
and although injured early on soldiered on and kept the strikers at bay, as a whole our defence
needs a little more work as we do as group tend to ball watch instead of picking off players, this
looks as though this is where the works are needed. Jack take heart tho` in time a great centre back.
Matt and for a reasonably little guy defensively you have it all and although one of the youngest in the
squad the challenges are 2nd to none, heading needs a bit of work but as a future centre back you
are a star in the making.
India a very knowledgable player and I have stuck with you in the centre mid as you break up the
play and use the ball making some great passes which have resulted in some well made goals in the
past, during this game the effort was great as with everyone and you tried to get the play moving
for us but maybe the conditions played a factor this week, but please keep at it like Bridie not at all
out of place. Sam R a very steady game this week a phenominal 1st half and he got us into some
great positions, a brilliant addition to our squad keep it up mate !
Dan joined us late this season but a welcome addition to the squad a very versatile player, and again
the play from him was excellent during a good team performance during the 1st half tried in vain to
get the front men in the game, but as with most tired during the 2nd period in the difficult conditions.
As for John I can`t say alot except that he is a great little striker, and lots of goals have come from
him whenever we have played, and I wouldn`t want to play without him, today was an off day and he
didn`t really get a sniff, we move on to the next game mate !
Sam T did a job up front this week with John in the absence of Tom and again the game of 2 halves
scenario came in during the first half some lovely bits of play nearly paid off and a couple of shots
that on another day would have sneaked in. Josh played his part during the 2nd half but even his
fresh legs could not get us moving, a great squad man like Matt as one of our younger players,
really gives it everything and uses his head, Matt take note !
Well done to Tintagel good luck in the next round, Padstow we move on and use this season to iron
out the faults and learn our positional play, BUT ENJOY.........as a coach I am proud of where we are
now, during what is going to be a difficult first season.
Keep those heads up.......and heres to the next game !
Not a great result…..but individually some great 1st half performances !

Match Report
After a few mistakes last weekend, and with no match this weekend Sean took the decision to play
this friendly to keep the team playing and iron out a few of the errors. So on a very rainy, dull day
the 13`s rolled out, to give it all.
Sean decided to keep the starting lineup as consistant as possible, with Dom as ever pulling on
the gloves, the back four started with Tom B at right back after an impressive game last week, at
left back Bridie returned, with Matt and Jack continuing in the centre. The midfield lined up with Sam
starting on the right, and Scarlet on the left, Captain Jacob and India in the middle with John and
Tom W  making up the strike partners up front.
Mark Jones our resident linesman stepped in to ref, after a last minute withdrawel from the original
ref, and many thanks to Barry, Doms dad for stepping in to run the line for me.
The whistle blew and off we went Padstow looking comfortable on the ball, and moving the ball
about well, after only 5 minutes Padstow found themselves 1 - 0 up after some good interpassing
play, with Tom W eventually finding John in a good position who calmly slotted the ball into the back
of the net.
After that goal the game settled down a bit and St. Stephens stepped up the pace and caused a
few problems Tom B carried on where he left off last week with some good defending and tackles,
Matt and Jack kept the opposing strikers at bay with some good work between them, after a good
move from St. Stephens Dom was called into action to make a great save, and keep Padstow
ahead, after the initial counter attack from the saints, Padstow got back into the game with some
good movement from Jacob and India which ended with the ball being played out to Sam who after
turning a couple of players laid the ball back to Scarlet who planted a perfect lob over the goalie,
and give Padstow a 2 goal lead, and score her first goal for the 13`s.
Straight from the restart St. Stephens counter attacked and Bridie had to be alert to the danger,
when she had to make some timely tackles, Matt also had to make a brave challenge on the edge
of the area, with Jacob having to defend quite deep as well Padstow found themselves under some
pressure, which culminated in the saints, pulling a goal back after a good cross came over only for
Jack to find the net from a deflection. The game continued to flow from one end to the other and
John, Tom W and Jacob all had chances to restore the 2 goal lead but for some stout defending and
good keeping, at the other end Dom was forced into a couple of good saves as St. Stephens looked
for an equaliser, Tom B combined with Jack and Matt to keep the saints out, but on 32 minutes,
disaster as St. Stephens capitalised on some poor marking to score their second, and make the
half time score 2 - 2.
At half - time Sean made a couple of changes with Sam T replacing Tom W and moving into a wide
position on the right Dan moved up front alongside John and Tom B being replaced by Josh at right
back. The aim of the second half to give all the players a chance to shine. Unfortunately within 5
minutes St. Stephens had blown the Padstow marking to shreds and forged ahead 3 - 2 Padstow
tried to settle with John and Dan attempting to make a breakthrough, Bridie was providing great
cover at the back and Matt continued to impress with some great tackles as the game wore on.
Scarlet gave the saints a few problems down the left, and Sam T although carrying an injured knee
was not afraid to get stuck in and have a go, with India having a break Sam R lined up with Jacob
in the middle, and although both worked hard, St. Stephens were finding a lot of space and started
to control the game.
With almost 15 minutes gone, against the run of play Padstow worked an attack with Sam T and
Sam R both involved the ball finally landing at the feet of John who squeezed the ball into the net,
and level the score again with his second of the match. Padstow were back in the game and while
the defence managed to keep strong, with Josh making a couple of last ditch tackles, the passing
got a bit better and Jacob and Sam took a bit of a command in the middle, with the hour mark
reached Padstow were finding some fluency and out of the blue came the goal of the match, the
ball being received by Jacob 30 yards out after some good work by Dan and Sam T, Jacob didn`t
look back, unleashing a shot that looped over the keeper before dropping into the net behind.
At the restart India came back on with Tom W and super sub Harvey, with Dan, Matt and Sam T
making way, Padstow 4 - 3 up found the saints working hard looking for the equaliser, and as tired
legs started to give out, Dom found his goal under a bit of pressure, as the minutes ticked down
John did have one last opportunity to make the game safe but the keeper was in a good position.
With Padstow players exposed the equaliser was inevitable and it came with just a few minutes
remaining. The match ended in a 4 - 4 draw which on the day was a fair reflection on both sides.
Padstow we need to get our marking sorted and a bit more passing composure, but overall a very
important match for Manager Sean to think about, a few negatives but outwayed by the positives.
Well done guys, it`s coming !

Match Report
Away from home on a reasonable Autumn morning, a bit of a trip and we eventually got there !
With 2 or 3 players missing Sean was able to give a first start to Dan W. on the left wing, the rest of
the lineup was as was expected with Dom in goal, Tom B at right back and the ever impressive
Scarlet on the left, with Matt and Jack again making up the central duo, Sam R. started on the right
and India and Jacob partnering in the centre, John and Tom W. reforming up front.
Sam T. and Harvey giving Sean a couple of options on the bench.
Playing on a much smaller pitch than used to Padstow although looking lively after the trip, found
that the smaller space did not allow for their usual free flowing passing game, and struggled to get
settled into the game, Callington showing that they could use the pitch to their advantage and
causing a few early problems with the long ball. Padstow eventually got themselves going and
after Dom had survived from a early bombardment with 2 or 3 fine saves, Tom W and John managed
to combine and beat the defense only for the Cally keeper to make a great save, Matt and Jack
looked to be in control at the back and while Matt was getting in with some superb tackles Jack
was getting to grips with the long ball and making some fantastic clearing headers. Scarlet although
being put under pressure was her usual skilfull self, and Tom B was really getting involved and
standing his ground against some much bigger Cally lads. On 15 minutes Padstow created their
second really good opening when after good play from India and Jacob the ball came to Tom W
who fed John only for the little striker to hit the ball over the bar. Seeming to cope with everything
Callington could throw at them Padstow continued to put a bit more pressure on the Cally goal
only to find the keeper in fine form, Jacob having a sweet effort fingertipped over the bar.
Dan moving down the flank caused a few problems and John, Jacob, and Tom W all had shots on
target which just would not find the net.
After 28 minutes a breakthrough and with a long kick from Dom and a knock on from Jacob, John
latched onto the ball and lobbed the advancing keeper. 1 - 0 Padstow, within a minute some
untidy defending and from a corner Callington equalised from a free header, Padstow then
committed suicide by going to sleep ( too many late nights guys ! ) and another free header found
it`s way into the Padstow net, and with a couple of minutes remaining Callington found more space
in the middle of the field and with a nice little lob once again found the net to make it 3 - 1 at half time
Sean was not happy, and the team at least were not happy with their play.
After a good discussion at half time Sean introduced Sam T in place of Sam R who although
carrying a slight injury, had worked his socks off for the team, and needed a rest.
Although Tom B had requested a breather at half time, he stayed on the field to help the side and
Sean knowing that players were short, and after a very busy first half he was ready to go again.
Padstow seemed to have listened and started the second half with new vigor, and pressed to get
an early opening, India and Jacob working well in midfield won the ball and Jacob slotted a through
ball into the path of Dan who with good composure threaded the ball past the Cally keeper, to get
Padstow back into it. ( Or so we thought ! ) Within no time at all Callington stretched their lead again
after some good work around our penalty area. 4 - 2. After that goal heads seemed to drop and
Padstow struggled to get back in tune with the gameplan of Callington although Padstow never
gave up with Scarlet and Sam T working hard down the wings and Tom B having a really good
individual game, Jacob had a couple of near chances Dan and Sam T had a really good chance
each to pull a goal back. John could of added to his tally and Tom W was trying to find a way through.
It was going to be one of those days the Cally keeper had a very good game, and the opposition
just seemed to be in control, although Dom was called upon to make some superb saves he did
not have much chance with either of the remaining 2 goals as Padstow found themselves being
overrun at the back as Cally just pushed men up. Harvey was introduced with 15 minutes left and
his fresh legs provided a tired Jack and Matt with some help at the back. With Scarlet moving up
the field she was able to use her pace and provide some supply to the front 2. Sean with the hope
that with the 3 missing players who can play in defence will return for the next game, and use young
Scarlet where he really needs her, fingers crossed. With the game coming to a close, Padstow
did continue to show character and keep pushing until the end. So really well done for that guys !
A mornings travel, a much smaller pitch than we were used to and a few defensive issues to sort.
All this things contributed to the loss of the game, however guys these are things we must get used
to, it is a long season and we have plenty of games to put it right ! So we can take heart from that
this year is a first for a lot of you and we have a lot to learn as we go, and we will have a very
good little team, so keep those heads up and look to the next game !!
Not a great result…..but individually some great performances !

Match Report
Our first ever league match at 11-a-side, and although the weather was near perfect, a shade too
hot maybe, on the playing front Coach Sean was getting to grips with his first few team selection
problems, with captain Jacob sidelined with an injured foot, Jake carrying an injured knee, as well
as 2 or 3 other team members missing due to other activities, a change in lineup was needed
for the first time for a while. A committed Jake said he could start the match so he moved into the
centre midfield with India and Sam R. started on the right midfield. Scarlet went to the left side and
the defence was able to remain the same with Tom B. Matt, Jack and Bridie making up the back 4,
Dom remained in goal, and the dynamic duo of Tom W and leading scorer John up front.
With a smaller bench of Callum, Josh and Harvey, the weather would play a key role.
Early on Padstow looked as though they were settling into their normal groove, however with the
experience on their side Gorran were soon stepping up the pace and Padstow were having to
defend in numbers, Dom was outstanding in goal making 1 or 2 excellent saves to keep the greens
in the game. Matt and Jack defended stoutly getting some good tackles in, Bridie along with the
hard working Scarlet were showing the boys a thing or two about tackling and Tom B on the other
flank was working hard to prevent the crosses coming over from the right.
It wasn`t all one way traffic and Padstow did create a few runs at the Gorran defence only to be
thwarted by the much bigger players in the Gorran defence. A great move involving Jake, Scarlet
and Tom W ended in the ball striking the upright, it was at that point the Coach and Supporters
maybe felt that it was going to be one of those days.
After 28 minutes with the game edging towards a rewarding 0 - 0 half-time score, Gorran made
the breakthrough after some lovely play which found our defenders floundering, and the ref in the
way….! Not my words Rob ! Dom was beaten, Padstow although downhearted didn`t show it and
from the restart tried again to get their game going and moved the ball about very well, Scarlet was
making those mazy runs and Jake was working tirelessly against the Gorran side and the added
hinderance of the injury, Gorran made a break and although broke through the defence Dom was
on hand, to deal with the situation, from Doms kick Jake won the ball and took the Gorran defence
on down the right and put a low cross over for who else but John to slot home, and draw Padstow
level and to get his 9th goal in 3 games. With half-time looming some of the players were looking
towards the ref to blow up and have a rest and a drink, and re-charge from the onslaught of the
Gorran players and the heat of the afternoon sun.
At half - time Sean had to make a couple of changes with Josh going on in place of the hard working
Tom B who had to leave to attend a family function, Sam R after a storming first half requested a
rest which made way for Callum to go on in the right wing position. As the whistle blew Padstow
looked to have listened to the coaches team talk and looked re-vitalised forcing the Gorran keeper
into an early save, Padstow kept the pressure up and Tom W came close to giving Padstow the
lead before John tried his luck again, but the keeper was positioned well.
The danger of the counter attack was there and proved dividends when after 5 minutes of Padstow
pressure Gorran found themselves up the other end and on the end of a penalty decision which
had gone against the unlucky Jack for upending a Gorran attacker, unfortunately for Jack his 3rd
penalty offence in 3 games found the ball drilled into the back of the net past Dom who could only
watch on helplessly.
As the game settled down Padstow forced some good through balls which found Tom W or John only
to find the solid Gorran defence in their way.
Gorran were getting stronger and our defence were continually being put under pressue, Dom was
called upon to make an outstanding fingertip save which was knocked onto the upright and cleared.
The " mid August " sun also took it s toll and India had to come off midway through the second half
after efficiently working the middle of the park, she was replaced by Sam R who had recovered
himself to continue in the game, just as Padstow looked as though they might sneak a leveller, they
were delivered a double blow, with Gorran using their experience to make sure of the game after
several attempts to get through Jack and Matt, Matt having cleared twice only for the attack to
continue and Gorran to strike and put the game out of reach for Padstow with 15 minutes to go.
At that moment Jake had to come off after struggling through with his injured knee for nearly an hour
Tom W moved into centre of midfield with Callum, while Harvey joined John up front, again in an
unfamiliar role, but willing to give it a go, as the game moved into its final minutes John had a great
chance to pull one back only for the keeper to make another great save. Harvey and Tom also tried
to get in on the act, but to no avail and with time running out and a lot of the Padstow players on
their last legs Gorran put a fourth into the net, to cap a great game for them although, a bit harsh
on the Padstow team for a great effort.
WELL DONE Guys on a great effort - a few lessons to learn but a good try !
